Abstract:

Electrified vehicles, including different kinds of Electric Vehicles and Hybrid Electric Vehicles (EVs/HEVs), emerged more than 100 years ago and have been widely recognized as the future of the global transport in order to reduce the CO2 emissions and to protect the environment. Some key technologies in the domain of electrified vehicles, like electric machines, power electronics, and energy management strategy, are quickly developing and have been extended into the applications as the trucks, buses, boats, and even unmanned aircrafts etc.
This seminar will firstly give a brief introduction to the general information including the architecture, the classification of electrified vehicles. The focus will be put on the recent advances and R&D hot topics in electric machines, power electronics, as well as the future trends. An introduction to the energy management strategy will also be given with some examples and perhaps some exercises based on the energetic macroscopic representation (EMR) modelling methodology.

About the Speaker

Pr. Yuan Cheng received the B.S., M.Sc., and Ph.D. degrees all in Electrical Engineering from Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT), Harbin, China, in 2002, 2004 and 2009 respectively. From 2009 to 2011, he worked in Labs of FEMTO-ST and L2EP, France as research scientist for design and optimization of different series-parallel hybrid electric vehicle powertrains organized by the French EV/HEV research network of MEGEVH. From 2009 to 2019, he worked in the Research and Advanced Engineering Department (DRIA) of Groupe PSA in Vélizy, France as research engineer and later as powertrain electrification engineer, where he was responsible for vehicle electrification and electric machine innovations. He is now Professor in Harbin Institute of Technology, China. His research interests include design and optimization of electric machines, novel EV and HEV powertrains, and multi-physical modelling and simulation of vehicle energetic systems etc.
