Since testing opportunities on the physical system are limited, accurate models and simulation studies are indispensable. Modelica is a powerful tool to develop power system models, as it allows for interoperability between various simulation and analysis softwares using the FMI Standard. It is an equation-based, object-oriented modeling language that allows us to implement flexible models that are compatible with many tools. I will discuss the foundations of developing models using Modelica and the open-source power systems library, OpenIPSL. I will show an example on how to create a model of a hydroelectric plant using OpenIPSL, and how we can utilize grid measurements to validate our models to show that the models we developed are adequate for power system studies.

About the Speaker

Meaghan Podlaski is a doctoral student in Electrical Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI). She holds a BS and MS in Electrical Engineering also from RPI. She currently is a Chateaubriand Fellow in the Ampere Lab at Ecole Centrale Lyon working on validation and system identification for power plants under the advisement of Dr. Xavier Bombois. She is also supported by the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship Program and works under the advisement of Dr. Luigi Vanfretti in the ALSET Lab at RPI. At RPI, she works on the NASA ULI CHEETA developing multi-domain system models for cryogenically-cooled electrified aircraft. Meaghan’s background is primarily in modeling, identification, and estimation for both land-based power systems and electrified aircraft.

Modeling and Simulation using Modelica with Application to Power Systems Meaghan Podlaski Chateaubriand Fellow, Ampere Laboratory, Ecole Centrale de Lyon, Lyon, France Graduate Research Assistant, Electrical, Computer, and Systems Engineering, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, NY, USA 18 novembre 2021, 10h00 – 11h00 Amphi ATRIUM, ESPRIT Université de Lille, “Cité Scientifiques” Abstract IThe power industry heavily […]

[11,37
