Since 2010, a \u201cCarbon Care\u201d approach has been started with 4 steps:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>awareness of our environmental footprint<\/li>\n<li>reduction of our greenhouse gases (GHG)<\/li>\n<li>assessment of our GHG emissions<\/li>\n<li>and GHG mitigation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cCarbon Care\u201d approach of L2EP has been initiated in 2010 on the occasion of\u00a0<span style=\"color: #f07e1c;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/vppc2010.univ-lille1.fr\/index.php?page=carbon-care\" style=\"color: #ff4b33;\">IEEE-VPPC\u201910<\/a><\/span>\u00a0conference . It has been refined during <a href=\"http:\/\/www.epe2013.com\/index.php?page=carbon-care\"><span style=\"color: #f07e1c;\">EPE\u201913 ECCE Europe<\/span><\/a>\u00a0conference\u00a0 notably with the development of a calculation tool.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_6449\" style=\"width: 323px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6449\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/l2ep.univ-lille.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/test.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"313\" height=\"150\" class=\"wp-image-6449\" srcset=\"https:\/\/l2ep.univ-lille.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/test.png 488w, https:\/\/l2ep.univ-lille.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/test-300x144.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 313px) 100vw, 313px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-6449\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">\u201c<span style=\"font-size: small;\">Carbon Care\u201d action for a conference<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n<p align=\"justify\">Since 2015, thanks to a dedicated person trained to the ADEME\u2019s \u201cBilan Carbone\u201d method and the introduction of life cycle assessment, this \u201cCarbon Care\u201d approach has been extended to lab\u2019s main research topics.\u00a0Learning from its past experiences and accumulating knowledge is the L2EP\u2019s philosophy.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #f07e1c;\">\u201cCarbon Care\u201d for Conferences Organised by the L2EP Lab<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>IEEE-VPPC\u201910<\/strong> was the first \u201cCarbon Care\u201d action for L2EP lab. The event was held in Lille in September 2010 and gathered 368 attendees from 35 countries.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/vppc2010.univ-lille1.fr\/index.php?page=carbon-care\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/l2ep.univ-lille.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/fig2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"578\" height=\"119\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-6450 size-full\" srcset=\"https:\/\/l2ep.univ-lille.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/fig2.png 578w, https:\/\/l2ep.univ-lille.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/fig2-300x62.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 578px) 100vw, 578px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<strong><span style=\"color: #f07e1c;\">GHG reduction<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cCarbon Care\u201d team (4 volunteers) was set up to reduce the GHG emissions of the conference. Based on IEEE-VPPC\u201910 experience, EPE\u201913 ECCE Europe built a stronger \u201cCarbon Care\u201d team, action (with the development of an efficient assessment tool) and a collective mitigation action.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.epe2013.com\/index.php?page=carbon-care\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/l2ep.univ-lille.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/image7.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"969\" height=\"195\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-6455 size-full\" srcset=\"https:\/\/l2ep.univ-lille.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/image7.png 969w, https:\/\/l2ep.univ-lille.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/image7-300x60.png 300w, https:\/\/l2ep.univ-lille.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/image7-768x155.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 969px) 100vw, 969px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #f07e1c;\">Awareness and GHG reduction <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The \u201cCarbon Care\u201d team\u2019s role was extended: as previously, the team (10 volunteers) guided attendees in their accommodation and travel choices, organized reduction actions, such as taxi-bike and local meals, at the time of the conference. It uses the \u201cBilan Carbone\u201d methodology for transport, accommodation, food and other items and includes uncertainties. It allows a much more accurate estimation. The amount of money used to take part in 2 projects aiming at reducing GHG emissions. The first project in the same national Park Argentina allowed the mitigation of the conference\u2019s international GHG emissions. The second project in Northern France mitigated the local GHG emissions of the conference. Their feedback were very positive. They also indicated the willingness to develop such initiative for other projects founded by the EU.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #f07e1c;\">Research Projects Related to Energy Transition<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Many projects of L2EP are related to the energy transition thanks to the expertise of lab\u2019s members in innovative electrical system. Moreover the L2EP is leader of the CUMIN interdisciplinary programme on e-mobility and a key player of SoMEL So Connected on urban smart grids.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #f07e1c;\">CUMIN<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/l2ep.univ-lille.fr\/groupes-de-recherche\/equipe-commande\/programme-cumin\/\"><span style=\"color: #f07e1c;\">https:\/\/l2ep.univ-lille.fr\/groupes-de-recherche\/equipe-commande\/programme-cumin\/<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The \u00ab\u00a0Campus of University with Mobility based on Innovation and carbon Neutrality\u00a0\u00bb programme is coordinated by L2EP and developed in collaboration with CRIStAL and TVES labs also located at the Cit\u00e9 Scientifique campus of the University of Lille. This interdisciplinary programme aims at developing electo-mobility on the campus in order to reduce its GHG emissions. The CUMIN programme is subdivided into several projects dealing with one specific aspect of the programme. In the long term, the Cit\u00e9 scientifique site will become an<strong> eco-campus as a living lab for the development of eco-cities<\/strong>. CUMIN is developed in partnership with R\u00e9gion Haut-de-France, Metropole Europenne de Lille, i-SITE ULNE foundation, University of Trois-Rivi\u00e8res (Canada), University of Ghent (Belgium) and Rochester Institute of technology (USA).<\/p>\n<p>SoMEL So Connected<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ademe.fr\/sites\/default\/files\/assets\/documents\/somel_soconnected.pdf\"><span style=\"color: #f07e1c;\">https:\/\/www.ademe.fr\/sites\/default\/files\/assets\/documents\/somel_soconnected.pdf<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This project is coordinated by the Metropole Europ\u00e9enne de Lille (MEL) to develop business models of smarts grids\u2019 integration in urban areas. L2EP is a key player of this project, in particular by the integration of renewable energy in buildings and smart energy management of the different power flows. In this framework, L2EP lab is also strongly implied in <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/d_1WR7ikNDk\"><span style=\"color: #f07e1c;\">\u201cSmart buildings as nodes of smart grids\u201d chair<\/span><\/a>\u00a0 supported by MEL and JUNIA.
